 Personal Introduction

Prof. Vijay P. Singh holds professional qualifications as a Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Hydrologist (PH), and is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE). He is a fellow of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), the Fazlisy College of Georgia, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and an Honorary Distinguished Member of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA), among other honors.

Prof. Vijay P. Singh has published extensively in the fields of hydrology, irrigation engineering, hydraulics, groundwater, water quality, water resources, entropy theory, connectivity theory, and the impacts of climate change. He has authored over 1530 refereed journal articles, 40 books, 130 book chapters, 330 conference papers, 92 edited reference books, and the "Handbook of Applied Hydrology" and "Encyclopedia of Snow, Ice and Glaciers."

Education

1967, University of UP Agricultural, Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Technology, majoring in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering

University of UP Agricultural, Master's degree in Engineering, specializing in Hydrology

1970, University of Guelph, Canada, Ph.D

1974, Colorado State University, Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, specializing in Hydrology and Water Resources.

1998, University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, Ph.D.

Academic contribution

Due to his contributions to wave modeling and the development of entropy-based hydrological processes and hydroclimatic extremity theories, he was elected a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in 2022. Vijay P. Singh is a Distinguished Professor and Regents Professor at Texas A&M University and holds the Caroline and William N. Lehrer Distinguished Chair in Water Engineering. Singh has twice received the Norman Medal, the highest honor of the American Society of Civil Engineers, established in 1872, recognizing engineering papers known for their "practical value" and "impact on engineering practice." He is one of the few scientists to have received this award twice: in 2010, for a paper co-authored with Tommaso Moramarco and Claudia Pandolfo, and again in 2023, for a paper co-authored with Solomon Vimal.
