Dr. Lu Zhang, Chief Researcher of CSRIO invited by Prof. Wang Huixiao gave a series of lectures on the topic of Ecohydrological Processes and Modelling from Nov.5th to Nov.26th.
Graduated from Free University of Brussels, Belgium, Dr. Lu Zhang is now the Senior Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO Land and Water in Australia, Pengcheng Scholar Chair Professor, Shenzhen Graduate School, Peking University and the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University. He has long been engaged in the research of watershed water balance and water management, watershed and global scale water balance simulation, water carbon coupling, the impact of land use change on watershed runoff, and the simulation of soil-vegetation-atmosphere interaction. Currently, Dr. Lu Zhang has published nearly 200 SCI papers. He is the associate editor of Water Resources Research, Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies, Journal of Soils and Sediments, Ecohydrology and the editorial board member of International Soil and Water Conservation Research and Geography and Sustainability.
Nearly 160 teachers and students from Beijing Normal University, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research and Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS and other related institutes and universities participated in the online courses, and 12 students participated in the offline courses. In the courses, Dr. Lu Zhang introduced the basic concepts of ecological hydrology, estimation methods of surface radiation and evapotranspiration, ecohydrological process model: WAVES, estimation of surface water and carbon flux, the impact of climate change on watershed water balance, the impact simulation of climate change on water resources, etc. After every class, Dr. Lu Zhang would answer and reply to the questions raised by teachers and students, and conducted in-depth discussion on some hot issues.
The courses are rich in content, solid in theory, and the results and examples are also very representative and forward-looking. Dr. Lu Zhang's broad academic vision and profound academic thinking was deeply impressed and beneficial to everyone. This series of courses have a positive impact on talent cultivation, academic innovation, and discipline construction, and are conducive to high-level and high-quality academic communications and the promotion of international academic status.
